DAY 4 — SOMEBODY IS WAITING ON A WITNESS
MATTHEW 9:37–38 (KJV)
“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
SOMEBODY IS WAITING ON A WITNESS
Have you ever thought about how many people you encounter in a single week?
People at work.
People in your neighborhood.
People you see at the store.
Even people within your own family.
Some of them may be carrying burdens you know nothing about.
Some may be searching for answers.
And some may be waiting for someone to tell them about Jesus Christ.
In Matthew chapter 9, Jesus looked upon the multitudes and was moved with compassion.
He saw people who were weary, scattered, and in need of a shepherd.
Then He turned to His disciples and said:
“THE HARVEST TRULY IS PLENTEOUS, BUT THE LABOURERS ARE FEW.”
Notice something important.
Jesus didn’t say there was no harvest.
HE SAID THERE WERE TOO FEW LABORERS!
The need was great, but more workers were needed.
And His instruction was to pray that the Lord would send laborers into His harvest.
Sometimes we pray for people to be saved while overlooking the opportunities God has placed directly in front of us.
We ask God to reach our communities.
To restore families.
To save our loved ones.
But have we considered that God may be calling us to participate in the very things we’re praying for?
You don’t have to be a preacher to share the gospel.
You don’t need a platform to demonstrate the love of Jesus.
Sometimes it begins with a conversation.
An invitation.
A moment of encouragement.
Or simply taking time to listen to someone who needs hope.
THE HARVEST ISN’T JUST SOMETHING WE PRAY ABOUT. IT’S SOMETHING WE’RE CALLED TO PARTICIPATE IN!
We cannot save anyone.
Only Jesus can do that.
But we can be witnesses of His grace and truth.
And somewhere in your everyday life, there may be someone who needs to hear what Jesus has done for you.
Don’t underestimate what God can do through one willing witness.
Somebody needs Jesus. And you may have an opportunity to introduce them to Him!
REFLECT
Have I been praying for people to encounter Jesus while overlooking opportunities to share Him with others?
What might be keeping me from becoming more intentional about witnessing?
TODAY’S STEP
Think of one person who needs to know Jesus Christ.
Pray for them by name.
Then take one intentional step toward them today.
Send a message, begin a conversation, offer encouragement, or invite them to church.
Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and boldness to share the gospel when the opportunity comes.
Don’t just pray for the harvest. Be willing to labor in it!
PRAYER
Father, thank You for allowing me to participate in Your mission. Open my eyes to the harvest around me. Give me compassion for those who don’t know Jesus and courage to share the gospel. Help me recognize opportunities to demonstrate Your love and speak Your truth. Make me a faithful witness, and use my life to point someone toward salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
